LOVE

DEFINING LOVE

Science says ‘Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be converted from one form to another’. In other words, ‘Energy’ is absolute. When you see the fan moving on its own on a breezy day, it’s because of the high speed winds. Technically, the kinetic energy of the wind gets converted to mechanical energy of the fan. When M S Dhoni hits his trademark ‘Helicopter shot’, it is his mechanical energy which gives birth to such a whooping kinetic energy of the ball that it goes for a magnanimous ‘six’. And Dhoni is able to hit this ‘six’ is because the energy from the food he eats is utilized in his skill, his job. Simple enough! Every phenomenon follows the obvious, yet magnificent ‘Law of conservation of energy’.

You must be wondering ‘what has this got to do with love’. You would be thinking love is a feeling, an emotion; science and its laws is a totally different domain! The reason I wrote about science, energy in particular, is because I feel love has got a very close connection with energy. You must have felt a great amount of happiness, an unbound enthusiasm, when the person whom you have crush on, just talked to you. When you are scheduled to meet your lover, you try to complete all your things in time. You rather complete them before time because you are really quick. When the meeting with your love becomes a regular affair, you are enthusiastic each day. This also reflects in your work. You want to complete all your tasks A1 so that you share only the great things with your love. You get that extra friendly with the people around you, you start enjoying the flowers, ‘anger’ hardly pays you a visit, there is ‘magic’ everywhere! In short you become a kid! You would agree that you feel ‘energetic’ in love! Where does this enthusiasm, this energy come from?

The correlation between love and energy makes me define love. I would define love as ‘Love is a source of infinite energy. Energy is always created when you are in love.’ I have clearly disobeyed the law of conservation of energy in my definition. How could I? Terms like ‘Love’, ‘God’, ‘Life’, ‘Death’ don’t have a particular, a staunch definition. Everybody have different views on these terms. And everyone is correct! People have their views and opinions based on their experiences. Similarly, I have defined love based on my life, my upbringing, my experience.

Some of you must be thinking ‘OK. Fair enough! But love is a set of chemical reactions that our brain goes through.’ I myself had seen a TED video ‘Why we love? Why we cheat?’ (LINK) which said that our mind drives us into thinking that we are in love. It had its own proofs, even a survey. Man tries to find a reason for everything. The human race has been gifted ‘logic’. That is how science has developed; because we have the ability to reason. Probably a theory on love, somewhere, will prove my definition wrong. But I still cling to my definition. My heart will always defend my definition. I would still say ‘how certain chemicals in brain give result to unbound happiness?’ And if there are such chemicals, I would rather pay attention on the ‘infinite energy’ and not on the chemicals.

Some of you may have a failed relationship. Some of you may have failed in ‘love’. Some can’t live their lives with the one they love, due to any reason. Many fail in love because of one-sided affection. Failure in love may have left a bitter feeling on love in the minds of many. In such a case, how can ‘love’ be ‘a source of infinite energy’! I believe love can happen multiple times. Love can happen till the very last breath of life. The great philosopher Osho says that ‘love’ is the only thing that comes naturally to man. It is never taught. Right from the time a child develops in womb, ‘love’ becomes an integral part of it. Does a mother teach a child to love her? No! A newborn kid doesn’t learn to cry from someone. It cries to gain attention of mother, to be loved. Hence by default, we all know the art of ‘love’. The best option in case of failure in ‘love’ is to move on. You don’t need to relearn ‘love’ to fall in it again. Hatred can be learned. Disrespect can be learned. Ego makes you learn many things. You can even learn to gain sympathy in sorrow. But ‘love’ is never learnt, it always exists. Sure, it can take time to move on. It will definitely take time to fight the ego within, which develops disgrace and ignorance in us. But ‘love’ will only win ultimately over ego.

Sometimes love is tested with a very difficult test of time. A never ending wait is expected. But if there is ‘blame’ in such a case, it is not ‘love’. Blame on your lover, blame on circumstances, blame on society! If you choose to stay single when your lover chooses to leave you, it is your choice! You cannot blame your love. If you cannot set your love free, it is no ‘love’. How can you say you are in ‘love’ when you cannot let go your lover, for your lover is happy in leaving! How can you claim that you are in ‘love’ when you wish something which does not make your lover happy! You had moments of ‘infinite energy’ with your lover in past. You can wait till death if you cherish those moments. Then, there will be no sadness, no blame. If you don’t choose to wait, it is also your choice. With time, you can easily fall in love again. Nothing to learn! You can witness ‘infinite energy’ all over again.

In love, there are no expectations. There are no complaints. You are getting ‘infinite energy’ for ‘free’. What else are you expecting! What exactly are you complaining about!
